Born on April 16, 1969 in Béthune, Fabien Roussel started as a journalist at France 3 Ardennes before becoming an advisor to Michelle Demessine, Secretary of State for Tourism under Lionel Jospin. In 2014, he was elected municipal councilor in Saint-Amand-les-Eaux, a town in the North and in 2017, Fabien Roussel became deputy for the 20th constituency of the North for the PCF. In 2018, he succeeded Pierre Laurent as national secretary of the party. Unlike the 2017 presidential elections where the PCF supported La France Insoumise, Fabien Roussel decided to run independently in 2022.
FABIEN ROUSSEL’S DAUGHTER WAS AFFECTED WITH CANCER
Fabien Roussel remains very discreet about his private life. However, we know that he lives with Dorothée, a category C civil servant, particularly attached to the defense of the middle classes. Together, they form a large blended family of five children that Fabien Roussel wishes to preserve. In March 2023, during the 8:30 p.m. show on Sunday, he spoke about a particularly painful period in his life: his daughter's fight against cancer at the age of nine. “In my life, I accompanied my daughter for 6 months who was diagnosed with cancer, at the age of 9, a severe cancer,” he confided.

In 2014, his daughter was diagnosed with a serious cancer: Burkitt lymphoma. The politician remembers with emotion the moment when he understood the seriousness of the situation: “I will remember the day the doctor told me: ‘Sir, your daughter must be hospitalized. She has cancer. It was December 31. I said to him: ‘Well yes, I’m celebrating New Year’s Eve and I’m coming tomorrow?’ ‘Sir, you don’t understand. It’s cancer, you have to come right away’. I will remember that all the time.”
