While he could soon be forced to resign from his post as Prime Minister, Gabriel Attal had a broad smile on his lips as he went to vote for the second round of the legislative elections on Sunday July 7, 2024.
A key figure in government since 2017, Gabriel Attal has held several positions over the years, which allowed him to climb the ranks despite his very young age. Government spokesperson for several years, he was then named budget minister, before being promoted to national education minister, and finally becoming Prime Minister. Unfortunately for him, he will not really have had time to prove himself as head of government. Indeed, the dissolution of the National Assembly considerably slowed down his rapid rise to the highest echelons of power. Because of the legislative elections organized on Sunday June 30 and July 7, 2024, Gabriel Attal could be forced to resign from his post as Prime Minister if the results are not favorable to him.
Indeed, if the presidential party does not obtain a significant majority within the National Assembly, Gabriel Attal would not be able to lead the French government. Unfortunately for him, the numbers are clearly not in his favor. At the end of the first round of the legislative elections, the National Rally came well ahead in the votes, with more than 33% of the vote. For its part, the New Popular Front, made up of all the left-wing political parties (PS, LFI, EELV, PCF etc.) collected more than 29% of the votes. The former presidential majority finally came in third place, with just over 20% of the vote. In order to prevent the National Rally from obtaining an absolute majority in Parliament, many candidates from the New Popular Front and the former presidential majority withdrew. However, this was not the case for Gabriel Attal, who came first in the 10th constituency of Haut-de-Seine, with 43.85% of the votes.
Gabriel Attal in favorable ballot to be re-elected deputy in Hauts-de-Seine
Sunday July 7, 2024, the man who is currently still Prime Minister went to his usual polling station, in order to slip his ballot into the ballot box like any citizen. Gabriel Attal thus appeared with a very broad smile when voting. It must be said that the candidate is in a more than favorable vote in his constituency against his opponent who represents the New Popular Front. We now have to wait a few more hours before knowing whether or not Gabriel Attal will retain a deputy seat in the National Assembly, and especially whether he will remain Matignon's resident or not.
