This Saturday, July 13, 2024, Shannen Doherty took her last breath at the age of 53 after a long fight against illness. Last June, in one of the last episodes of her podcast, the American actress made worrying revelations about her state of health.
The world of American cinema is in mourning. Saturday July 13, Shannen Doherty died at the age of 53 after battling breast cancer for nine years. As a reminder, the star was known for starring in successful series, such as “Beverly Hills 90210” and “Charmed”.
Internationally, thousands of stars and anonymous people paid tribute to his memory. Fighting against the disease, Shannen Doherty wanted to be transparent about her state of health, wanting to raise public awareness of the need for screening, in particular. In the media and on her networks, the actress chose to document her fight against the disease.
Shannen Doherty gets naked
To reach a large number of Internet users, Luke Perry's ex-on-screen partner launched a podcast last November called "Let's Be Clear With Shannen Doherty". An audio show in which she received multiple public figures in addition to discussing her career or her personal situation.
In an episode relayed on June 24, Shannen Doherty made worrying revelations about herself. “I have stage 4 cancer which, at this stage, is not treatable,” the director emphasized. “The treatments stop working, your body adapts to them, it becomes immune, your cancer cells adapt (...) and before you know it, your cancer has progressed.”
The desillusion
A massive blow for the star who was preparing to begin a new chemotherapy treatment. “I thought I was getting better, and suddenly I have to go back to chemo,” she added, her throat tight. "It's so hard. The idea of having to go through all that again... it broke me." After having a catheter inserted for her first chemotherapy eight years ago, Shannen Doherty also revealed that she was "over the moon" when she was able to do without it a year later. Going through this step again naturally undermined his morale.
“It broke me because yes, I have stage 4 cancer, and yes, I knew it was very serious (...)”, admitted the bubbly brunette whose immense courage was praised of all. “But when you have to go to the hospital and have a catheter put in, it becomes very real, in a very different way.”
Shannen Doherty remained hopeful
It is difficult for her to estimate the duration of this new treatment. "I don't know how long I'm going to have to do chemotherapy. I don't know if it will be three months, six months, or if after three months, if it doesn't work, I'll have to change treatment again."
Even through adversity, Shannen Doherty kept pushing on. "There are still positives. Because the molecular structure of my cancer cells has recently changed, so there are many more protocols I can try," she concluded. “So for the first time in months, I have hope.” His only regret? The side effects, in particular that his new chemotherapy is causing him yet another hair loss.
