🪳 For a general-purpose natural insect repellent spray:
1 cup white vinegar
1 cup water
1 tablespoon baking soda
10 drops essential oil (eucalyptus, peppermint, or tea tree – insect-repelling)
1 teaspoon dish soap
Spray bottle
🦟 For fruit flies:
½ cup apple cider vinegar
A few drops of dish soap
Small bowl or jar
🛏️ For bed bugs (powder form):
Food-grade diatomaceous earth (available at garden or hardware stores)
Preparation
🪳 Universal Insect Spray:
In a large bowl or container, mix vinegar and water.
Slowly stir in baking soda (do this carefully — it will fizz).
Add the essential oil and dish soap, mix gently.
Pour the solution into a clean spray bottle.
Spray along baseboards, window sills, behind furniture, inside cabinets, and in insect-prone corners.
🦟 Fruit Fly Trap:
Pour apple cider vinegar into a small bowl.
Add a few drops of dish soap — it breaks the surface tension.
Leave uncovered near fruit bowls or sinks. Fruit flies will be attracted and drown.
🛏️ Bed Bug Treatment:
Lightly dust diatomaceous earth around bed frames, mattress seams, headboards, and baseboards.
Leave for 24–48 hours, then vacuum thoroughly.
Repeat every few days until no signs of bugs remain.
Serving and Storage Tips
Store the insect spray in a cool, dark place. Shake before each use. Use within 2 weeks for best potency.
Replace fruit fly traps every 2–3 days.
Always use gloves when handling diatomaceous earth and avoid breathing in the dust.
Variants
Lemon juice substitute: Use lemon juice in place of vinegar for a fresh scent with similar effectiveness.
Clove oil alternative: Use clove essential oil for cockroach control — they hate its strong smell.
Freeze method for bed bugs: For infested clothing or bedding, freeze items for 72 hours to kill bed bugs and their eggs.
Boric acid: As an alternative for roaches — sprinkle boric acid lightly under sinks or behind appliances (keep away from pets and children).
