Flys in the house? What their presence can really mean (and how to fix it just)

The first weapon against flies is hygiene. And here, we are talking about simple everyday gestures: emptying the garbage cans before they overflow, cover ripe fruit, clean the sinks and siphons well (even if they look clean).

The kitchen and bathroom are the two rooms to watch. Remember to ventilate them, especially after cooking or showering. And then, we think about it less often, but even the remains of croquettes or pâtés for animals can attract visitors. So we don't let anything drag on.

Small, stupid but effective thing: place a two-cut cork in the fruit basket. The natural smell of cork tends to repel them. And it's totally harmless.

A final word on essential oils: yes, some such as lemongrass or lavender are reputed to keep insects away. But be careful if you have small children or animals, as they may be irritating or poorly tolerated.

Natural solutions that really work

You don’t have to buy ten plastic traps to deal with flies. A simple glass of cider vinegar with a few drops of dishwashing liquid is already doing the job very well. The smell attracts the midges, the liquid traps them. You can put a discreet one in a corner of the kitchen, a guaranteed effect.

Another nice tip: install a few repulsive plants near the windows or on the balcony. Basil, mint, or lavender are not only pretty but effective against insects.

For surface maintenance, think of sodium bicarbonate mixed with lemon. It cleans deep while leaving a fresh smell, and most importantly, it leaves no trace of attractive for flies.

Ah, and for lovers of grandmother's remedies: a little cup with cloves, placed on the work surface, may be enough to keep the most reckless away. Natural, simple and safe.
