Instructions:
Prepare the sandwiches:
Assemble your sandwiches by placing the cheese between two slices of bread.
Beat the egg mixture:
In a bowl, beat the eggs and stir in the milk. Season with salt and pepper to taste. Coat the sandwiches:
Dip each sandwich in the egg mixture, making sure both sides are coated.
Coat in breadcrumbs:
After dipping them in the egg mixture, coat the sandwiches in breadcrumbs or crushed crackers. Make sure the coating adheres well.
Heat the oil:
In a deep fryer or a deep, heavy-bottomed skillet, heat the cooking oil to approximately 350°F (175°C).
Fry the sandwiches:
Carefully place the coated sandwiches in the hot oil. Fry until golden brown on both sides. This usually takes 2 to 3 minutes per side.
Drain excess oil:
Once the sandwiches are golden brown and crispy, use a slotted spoon to remove them from the oil. Place them on a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
Cool and Serve:
Let the sandwiches cool for a few minutes before serving. The cheese inside should be melted and gooey.
Optional: Cut and Dip:
You can cut the fried sandwiches in half or quarters for easy dipping. Serve with your favorite dip, such as marinara or garlic aioli.
Remember to be careful when working with hot oil and make sure the sandwiches are cooked thoroughly. Adjust the filling and seasonings to your liking. Enjoy your fried grilled cheese sandwiches!
