Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
Step 2: Cook the Meat
In a skillet over medium heat, brown the ground beef (or turkey) until fully cooked. Drain any excess fat. Add the taco seasoning and salsa, and stir to combine. If using, add the diced bell pepper and onion. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes until heated through.
Step 3: Prepare the Crescent Dough
Unroll the crescent roll dough and lay it out on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Press the seams together to form a rectangle.
Step 4: Add the Filling
Spoon the taco meat mixture down the center of the crescent dough, leaving about 2 inches on each side for braiding. Sprinkle the shredded cheese on top of the meat mixture.
Step 5: Braid the Dough
To create the braid:
Cut slits about 1 inch apart on each side of the filling.
Starting from the top, fold the strips over the filling, alternating sides to create a braid pattern.
Step 6: Brush with Egg
In a small bowl, beat the egg and brush it over the top of the braided dough for a nice golden color.
Step 7: Bake
Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until the dough is golden brown.
Step 8: Serve
Remove from the oven and let it cool for a few minutes. Slice and serve with sour cream, guacamole, or your favorite toppings. Garnish with chopped cilantro or green onions if desired.
