Prepare: Preheat the oven to 180°C and grease a baking pan (approx. 20x20 cm) or line it with baking paper.

Melt the chocolate and butter: Chop the chocolate roughly and melt it together with the butter in a water bath or in the microwave. Stir well until smooth. Let it cool slightly.

Mix the batter: In a large bowl, mix the sugar, eggs and vanilla extract together well. Add the cooled chocolate-butter mixture and mix well.

Flour and baking powder: In a separate bowl, mix the flour, baking powder and salt and then slowly stir into the chocolate mixture.

Add nuts (optional): If you want to use walnuts or other nuts, add them to the batter now and stir them in.

Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and smooth it out. Bake the brownies for 20-25 minutes until they are firm but still a little moist in the middle (test with a toothpick). They should not be too dry.

Let cool: Let the brownies cool in the pan before cutting them into pieces.

Tip:
For extra chocolate enjoyment, you can mix chocolate chips or cocoa nibs into the batter!

Enjoy!
