Mix the yeast: Put two packets of yeast and two cups of warm water (105 to 110°F) in a mixing bowl. Leave it alone until the yeast disappears.
Add the base: Put in a teaspoon of salt, two cups of flour, and half a cup of sugar. Use a blender to blend for two minutes.
Put in the eggs and shortening: melt the oil and add the eggs. Continue beating for another two minutes.

Slowly add the flour: Slowly add 4 1/2 cups flour and mix well. Put the bowl of dough in a warm place and let it rise until doubled in size.

Let the buns rise for an hour, then bake for about 30 minutes at 350 degrees. Before baking, roll out the dough. Rub the butter all over the top.

NOTES:
This recipe makes a lot, but you can always reduce half of the recipe and you can freeze the prepared buns as well.
If you want to freeze pre-made dough, just be sure to mix the dough according to the recipe instructions, but add twice as much yeast. This is to compensate for the yeast that will die during the freezing process. Also, you want to make sure that you're only using active dry yeast, not fast-acting yeast. You can freeze for up to 4 weeks.
