Preheat the oven to 180ยฐC (fan oven) or 200ยฐC (conventional oven).
Place one sheet of dough on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
2. Invest:
Sprinkle the dough evenly with grated cheese.
Add herbs and, if desired, a little salt and pepper.
Craving extra flavor? Next, first spread a thin layer of mustard or pesto over the dough and then spread the cheese on top.
3. Cover and Shape:
Carefully place the second sheet of dough on top of the cheese layer and gently press the edges together.
Place a glass in the center of the dough (this will be the "heart" of the sun).
Cut 16 equal-sized strips from the glass to the edge (like a sun with rays).
Twist each strip twice (for a nice twist).
4. Brush and Bake:
Whisk the egg and brush it all over the cheese bread for a nice shine.
(Optional) Brush with a little melted butter or oil for extra color and flavor.
Bake for 20โ25 minutes, until the bread is golden brown and crispy.
5. Serve:
Let it cool slightly and serve warm or lukewarm as a snack or appetizer.
