Ingredients:
1 lb ground beef
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 medium onion, diced
3 cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
2 cups beef broth
1 cup milk (or heavy cream for a richer sauce)
2 cups small pasta shells
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)
Directions:
Cook the Beef: Heat olive oil in a large skillet or Dutch oven over medium heat. Add the ground beef and cook until browned, breaking it up into crumbles with a wooden spoon. Drain excess fat if necessary.
Sauté Vegetables: Add the diced onion to the skillet and sauté for 3-4 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic, Italian seasoning, and crushed red pepper flakes. Cook for an additional 1-2 minutes, until fragrant.
Add Liquids and Pasta: Pour in the beef broth and milk (or cream), stirring to combine. Bring the mixture to a simmer. Add the pasta shells and ensure they are submerged in the liquid. Cover and let it simmer on low heat for about 10-12 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the pasta is tender and most of the liquid has been absorbed.
Finish the Sauce: Once the pasta is cooked, stir in the mozzarella and Parmesan cheeses. Continue to stir until the cheese melts completely, creating a creamy sauce. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Serve: Remove from heat and let the dish sit for a couple of minutes to thicken slightly before serving.
